Something Old
Traditional meaning: symbolizes a connection to the past, loved ones, and all that has brought the couple to where they are today.
A memento from your first date- Did you save that first photobooth strip or movie theater ticket? Slip it into your bouquet so it can be with you as you walk down the aisle.
Mom/Grandma/Sister’s wedding dress- There are so many stunning ways to execute this idea! You could add some of the beading or lace detailing to your veil, hem the dress to make the perfect reception outfit, the list goes on and on!
Antique getaway car- Leave your wedding in style with a vintage ride. You could borrow a car from a relative or rent a vintage exit car from an event transportation company.
A family jewelry heirloom- This is one of the more classic ideas for the “something old” category but its sentimental value just can’t be topped! This is such a timeless way to incorporate an item that is of great value to your family that is sure to make you feel closer to that family member on your special day
Something New
Traditional meaning: a sign of hope, excitement for the future, and the new life the couple is about to begin.
Of course, in many cases, your something new could be your dress, shoes, jewelry, etc… but here are a few more intentional ideas.
Perfume- This is the perfect excuse to buy that new perfume to claim as your signature wedding scent! Bonus points if you save it and wear it only for special occasions when you want to be transported back to your special day. We think you can’t go wrong with Gardenia by Chanel!
A Custom Napkin Featuring You and the Groom’s Initials- What is a better way to celebrate your new marriage then customization featuring your initials? We love personal touches like this and it can symbolize you guys coming together! For other design ideas- check out our blog post on how to perfectly personalize your wedding day.
A new lip color- If you have been eyeing a gorgeous lipstick or want to have a fun new element added to your wedding makeup, this could be the way to go. Similar to the perfume, you could also save this lip color for special occasions! Some stunning lip colors we have had our eyes on include this Pat McGrath Blush Pink, this Iconic Charlotte Tilbury Shade, and this Timeless Red from Dior.
Something Borrowed
Traditional meaning: representing good luck for the couple’s marriage
A family member’s recipe- Maybe your grandma makes the yummiest angel food cake recipe or your uncle has mastered the perfect homemade barbeque sauce. Talk to your caterer about incorporating this borrowed recipe in your wedding day menu.
Your parent’s (or other loved ones) first dance song- This is such a sweet way to incorporate a relationship that you have admired throughout the years. Find out the song they danced to and have a fun throwback!
A sister, cousin, or best friend’s jewelry or veil- If an important lady in your life wore a piece that you loved during her wedding, that could be your something borrowed! Not only could you add a super cute piece to your wedding day look, you would also be keeping that special lady close to your heart.
Something Blue
Traditional meaning: a color associated with love and faithfulness during the time this tradition began
Manicure- A blue manicure could be the perfect pop of color on your wedding day. Whether you want to fully commit and paint the base color blue, or just add a touch of blue to a design, it is such a fun addition to your wedding look.
PJs for getting ready- A chic set of blue pjs or loungewear is a comfy and cute way to incorporate something blue for your wedding day. Snag a pair for you and get your bridesmaids another color to make for adorable getting-ready pictures! We adore Eberjey’s Bridal Shop collection, which is full of blue options.
Jewelry- Adding a pop of blue in your jewelry is a super subtle and elegant touch to elevate your look. We are currently loving the blue pieces in Julie Vos’ Wedding Shop!
